Upon arriving in Wellington from the UK in 2001, I was immediately captured by the architecture and landscape of the region. Coming from a country where buildings are often uniform and built from brick, it was wonderful to see the colour and individuality of the Wellington region from the multi-coloured rows of boatsheds to the villas scattered amongst the hills and bush.

I have a particular fascination with the boatsheds at Titahi Bay near my home in Tawa: colourful, and individual but enhanced by native trees and flora. Working from photographs that I take on my regular walks along the beach, I change the colours and pattern to bring my vision of their reality to life.

I also create intricate pen drawings of the city, multiple villas hanging on the hillside, their shapes and angles softened by the greenery that surrounds them.

Both my paintings and my drawings are characterised by an attention to detail and a love of the buildings and landscapes that they portray.

I am a largely self-taught artist working from my studio in Tawa. I work in acrylic and pen. My work can be found at Mitchell Studios ,Khandallah, Artspace Gallery, Petone and the Toi Store at Pataka.
